When I try out books from newer authors, I usually choose arbitrarily, often based on the excerpt and jacket design and theme. But I appreciated the other day that picking up their most celebrated works first is probably safer and might set the expectations better.
Case in point: I read Emily st mendel’s glass hotel and found it so-so, readable but didn’t resonate that much with me. Apparently survivor is the really the one to pick up. It sounded positively intriguing.
