Why do I find myself drawn to logical theories? Tarski, Hintikka, and McCarthy of course, when I know full well that the real world requires malleability.
Perhaps it’s because even though we recognise the need for probabilities and fuzziness, it still does not change the central thesis: the thing of interest must be studied rigorously and exactly, and the expected properties analysed formally.
The entailed truth may not be classical, may be non monotonic, could depend on numbers or ranking or other uncertainty related measures, but well-defined they must be.
We may have to, however, contend with all sorts of things outside the purview of formal study, especially in complex socio-technical systems, and that’s ok.
