This is where I collect and write things, mostly on academe and artificial intelligence. Established in 2010, by Vaishak Belle.
Sometimes, when you submit a paper, you might feel a sense of intense excitement & confidence. But soon after, this might be followed with self doubt. If accepted, there might be rumblings of the imposter syndrome: what if I made a terrible mistake without knowing about it and it got through anyway, and years later I’ll be embarrassed for submitting something that is possibly incorrect?
These are all stem from the same place of uncertainty & complexity of modern science, where it is hard to hold the entire framework for your inquiry & its methodology completely in your head. So insecurities pop in. It’s unavoidable. So trust your gut when you are doing the work and trust peer review, which might even be colleagues from your lab, who might give you an honest appraisal of the work and the results. It might be helpful to review the work a few days later with fresh eyes. But beyond that, doubting you work without justification is not helpful.
